Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - The Quebec Capitales erased a three-run deficit in the top of the eighth inning and beat the Ottawa Champions 10-6 Wednesday evening at RCGT Park.
"Chrismon pitched his heart out," said manager Hal Lanier following the loss. "He gave us everything he had, and we got the lead. It's a shame we couldn't win it. In the eighth and ninth inning we needed six outs and we couldn't get six outs."
RHP Austin Chrismon was effective as the starter for Ottawa, going seven innings and giving up only two earned runs. RHP Bobby Blevins picked up the win, while LHP Scott Maine was saddled with the loss.
The Champions came back on the Capitales last night, but it was Quebec's turn to play comeback on Wednesday. A LF Nick Van Stratten triple cleared the bases and gave the visitors an 8-6 advantage. Two more runs would be added in the top of the ninth to make the score 10-6.
Ottawa was able to jump into the lead in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a 3B Jordan Caillouet three-run homer. It was Caillouet's sixth jack of the season and scored CF Chase Harris and SS Daniel Bick.
Bick helped drive in a run in the third inning when his ground ball was muffed by an infielder and allowed C Tyler Nordgren to score.
Harris had himself a ballgame, as he was 2-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base. 1B Vinny Guglietti also went 2-for-3 with a run driven in - his second consecutive multi-hit contest.
Ottawa will look to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Capitales tomorrow, Thursday, August 30 at 7:05 p.m. The Champions final homestand of the season is a four-game set that begins Friday, August 31 against the Rockland Boulders.
