Jackals, Miners Split Doubleheader

Sussex County scored three runs over their final two trips to the plate to rally from a 4-3 deficit and beat New Jersey 6-4 in game one of a doubleheader.

The Miners had nine hits as a team with three batters having multi-hit games. Audy Ciriaco went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI while Daniel Mateo had a pair of hits, including a homer, and two RBIs. Nick Zaharion also chipped in two doubles for Sussex County and went 2-for-3.

Miners pitcher Martire Garcia tossed two scoreless innings of relief and picked-up the victory. Garcia allowed a hit while striking out three in the six batters that he faced. With the win, the southpaw is now 1-0 on the season.

For New Jersey in the losing effort, Jordan Hinshaw had a 1-for-2 game with a home run and two runs scored.

New Jersey gained a split in the doubleheader as they defeated Sussex County by the score of 5-3 in game two. After trailing 1-0 through 1 1/2 innings of action, the Jackals scored four runs in the second to take control of the contest and win going away.

Andy Mocahbee had a terrific game at the plate for New Jersey going 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and driving in all five runs. Jordan Hinshaw had a perfect 2-for-2 game with a run scored while Nolan Meadows and Carlos Triunfel each collected a hit and tallied a run.

Jackals starting pitcher Dylan Brammer allowed two earned runs over five innings of work and earned the win. Brammer allowed three hits and fanned six batters. With the victory, Brammer improved his mark to 9-8 on the season.
