Chris Sale Promoted to White Sox

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 4, 2010) - Today former Winston-Salem Dash pitcher Chris Sale was promoted to the Chicago White Sox from AAA Charlotte. Sale, the White Sox' first-round draft pick this season, becomes the first member of the 2010 Dash to reach the major leagues. He is also the first player from the 2010 draft class to reach the majors.

Selected with the 13th overall pick in June's First-Year Player Draft, Sale was immediately sent to Winston-Salem upon signing. The left-hander made his professional debut for the Dash on July 2 against Potomac, throwing a scoreless inning. In four relief appearances with Winston, Sale posted a 2.25 ERA and struck out four batters in four innings.

Sale earned a promotion directly to Charlotte on July 13. The Lakeland, Florida native was outstanding in seven appearances for the Knights, compiling a 2.84 ERA and a .136 opponents' batting average. He struck out 15 batters in 6.1 innings while only walking four.

Before becoming a professional, Sale starred at Florida Gulf Coast University. He went 11-0 with a 2.01 ERA as a junior, striking out 146 batters and walking only 14 in 103 innings.

Sale's collegiate accolades were numerous. He was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the College Baseball Foundation's Pitcher of the Year award. He was the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year and was named the 2010 National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball. Sale was also named an All-American by five different outlets (Ping!Baseball, Louisville Slugger, Yahoo! Sports, Baseball America, and ABCA/Rawlings).
