(LYNCHBURG, VA) Play was suspended in the third inning Wednesday night with the Potomac Nationals all over the Lynchburg Hillcats, 8-2. The first place Nationals continued their hot hitting against Justin Walker, who got roughed up in his Carolina League debut.

The Nats scored four runs in each of the opening two frames to put themselves in line for a sweep of the three-game series.

Steve Lombardozzi walked to open the game before Dan Lyons doubled to left. A fielding error by Josh Fellhauer allowed Lombardozzi to score. Tyler Moore then crushed his league-leading 37th double to score Lyons. After Mike Burgess grounded out, Derek Norris hit a mammoth home run to left, and it was 4-0.

Cody Puckett got one back in the bottom of the first with a solo home run off Potomac starter Marcos Frias.

But the P-Nats offensive avalanche continued in the second. Four straight hits, including a two-run triple by Lyons and another RBI double from Norris plated four more runs.

Lynchburg got an unearned run in their half of the second. Fellhauer singled with two outs and Mike Burgess made just his third fielding error in right field to move him to second. Jose Gualdron then singled to left to score Fellhauer, but Shane Carlson popped up to shortstop to end the inning.

Violent lightning bolts that had begun in the second inning caused the umpires to suspend play before the third. The weather was deemed to serious to resume play.

The two clubs will pick up where play was suspended before one of the three games next week in Woodbridge.

Potomac hits the road for a four-game set in Myrtle Beach. The first game begins tomorrow at 7 P.M. The broadcast begins at 6:45.
