Kinston Indians News Release

A brilliant performance by starter Matt Crim and a five-run eighth inning by Myrtle Beach pushed the Pelicans to a 5-1 rubber game victory over Kinston on Wednesday night at Historic Grainger Stadium.

Early on in the game, pitching was dominating much like it did in Kinston's 1-0 win in game two on Tuesday night. The pitcher's duel featured T.J. House pitching 4 1/3 perfect innings before surrendering a double to Gerry Rodriguez in the fifth inning. House shut out the Pelicans for seven innings but came away with a no-decision. He allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out three. House has been outstanding in his last three starts, surrendering just one run on six hits in 19 innings of work, good for an ERA of 0.47.

The Pelicans broke up the tie with a big top of the eighth against K-Tribe reliever Tyler Sturdevant. L.V. Ware walked with one out and Mycal Jones singled to left to send Ware to third. Jordan Kreke then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Ware and give the Pelicans a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Dan Nelson ripped an RBI single to left. After a walk to Mike Jones, Rodriguez pulled an RBI double down the left field line to make it 3-0. Matt Langwell came on in relief but gave up a two-run single to Cole Miles, extending the lead to 5-0.

Myrtle Beach lefty Matt Crim pitched 8 2/3 innings, limiting Kinston to a run on five hits. He walked one and struck out eight. Crim threw 107 pitches and was relieved by Angelo Paulino with two on and two out in the ninth.

Kinston's run came in the ninth inning. With two out, Chun Chen doubled and the Indians drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Bo Greenwell hit an infield single to cut the lead to 5-1. Nate Recknagel came to the plate as the potential tying run, but popped out to end the game.

Kinston starts a four game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats at Grainger Stadium on Thursday night. Righty Joe Gardner will take the mound for the K-Tribe. Game time 7pm for a Thirsty Thursday at Historic Grainger Stadium.
