Cincinnati RailRaiders News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Casey Hankinson scored a second-period goal and Mathieu Chouinard stopped 37 shots, as the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks blanked the Cleveland Barons, 1-0, Saturday at Cincinnati Gardens.
Hankinson, playing in just his second game after signing an AHL contract with Cincinnati December 3, deposited a rebound past Cleveland goaltender Nolan Schaefer 6:08 into the middle period for his first goal of the season.
Chouinard, who stopped all 13 shots he faced in 31:51 minutes Friday in relief against Grand Rapids in his Cincinnati debut, stopped 13 shots in the first period, nine shots in the second period and 15 more in the third en route to his 11th career shutout and seventh in the AHL.
Chouinard, a first-round pick of Ottawa in 1998 and re-drafted again by Ottawa in the second round in 2000, went 1-3-0 with a 2.59 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in five games this season with San Diego before being called up Friday.
"I wasn't thinking about the shutout," Chouinard said. "The win was most important. I'm thrilled to be back in the AHL, and getting a win at this level."
The Ducks improved to 2-1-0-0 in their last three games after losing four in a row November 28-December 3.
The Ducks and Barons face-off against tonight at 5:00 p.m. at Gund Arena.
