Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs earned their second win in a row Friday evening versus the Cleveland Barons at Copps Coliseum. More than 5,600 fans were on hand for the game, which included the seventh annual stuffed animal toss. More than 3,500 stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice, the most ever at a Bulldogs game.
Dan Ellis earned the shutout for the Bulldogs, stopping all 29 shots that were put his way. Nolan Schaefer stopped 36 of 38 shots in a losing cause for the Barons. The win lifts the Bulldogs out of a seventh place tie with the Barons in the North Division.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring halfway through the first period on a goal by Duncan Milroy that triggered the stuffed animal toss. Defenceman J.P. Cote fired a point shot that made its way to Corey Locke. Locke then shot at goalie Nolan Schaefer and Milroy was there to stuff in the rebound for his fourth of the season. The goal came at the 11:48 mark of the first period and more than 3,500 stuffed animals showered the ice.
Hamilton held an 18-8 edge in shots after the first period. The 18 shots were the most the Barons have given up in a period this season.
Not even a minute into the second the Bulldogs would make it 2-0 on a great goal by Corey Locke. Locke took a pass from Duncan Milroy in the neutral zone, sped past the defenceman and stuffed it in past Schaefer. The goal came at the 0:43 mark of the second and was Locke's sixth of the season, tying him with Jason Ward for second place on the Bulldogs.
Dan Ellis then took over for the rest of the game and stopped everything that came at him, including three key saves halfway through the third period and a five-on-three penalty kill towards the end of the frame.
The Bulldogs' next action will take place on Saturday, December 11th when they will travel to Rochester to take on the Amerks. Game time will be 7:35pm and fans can listen to all the action live at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com or AM 820-CHAM.
