Midland RockHounds News Release
Former University of Florida Gator star JJ Schwarz entered Wednesday night's game in a "mini-slump," going 0-for-his-last-10. He left the game soaking wet, having been given a "Powerade bath" after driving in the game-winning run as the RockHounds defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles, 4-3, in 10 innings at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
RockHounds pitching set the stage for Schwarz's walk-off by keeping Amarillo scoreless in the top of the 10th (a challenge in the era of the "designated runner" at second base to open each extra inning). After pitching a scoreless ninth inning, Jack Weisenberger got two outs but also walked two batters to load the bases. Austin Briggs entered the game and went 3-0 to Luis Basabe before striking out the Sod Poodles' designated hitter on the next three pitches.
Jonah Bride opened the RockHounds 10th with a ground out pushing designated runner Devin Foyle to third and Schwarz sent an 0-1 pitch into center field, more than deep enough to bring Foyle home with the game-winner (and earn the "bath").
He didn't figure in the decision, but Brady Feigl was outstanding. The RockHounds starter went six innings, allowing only a solo home run by Ryder Jones in the first. Feigl, who has ranked among the Double-A Central's leaders in multiple categories all season, went six innings, allowing the lone run on four hits and two walks while striking out a career-high 10 batters.
A single by Foyle and a hit-and-run single from Schwarz (who finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and the game-winning RBI) helped the 'Hounds tie the game at 1-1 in the first.
Consecutive singles with one out in the second from Kyle McCann, Elvis Peralta and Max Schuemann (see "Kibbles & Bits," below) gave the RockHounds the lead and Foyle's team-leading 52nd RBI of the season (on a sac fly) pushed the advantage to 3-1.
The lead stayed 3-1 until Amarillo scored twice against reliever Jesus Zambrano, with Geraldo Perdomo's eighth-inning double off the right field wall tying the game.

Max Schuemann (2-for-5, RBI) extended his on-base streak to 13 games. He is 23-for-51 in the 13-gamer (.451 with a .532 on-base percentage) with nine walks, eight stolen bases, and 14 runs scored. And ... through the first eight games of the current homestand ... Max is hitting over .500 (17-33, .515).
