Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - With many enjoying a day off work on Monday, Sasha Chmelevski got down to business in 6-3 Ottawa 67's win over the North Bay Battalion.
The 67's forward scored five goals - reaching 200 career OHL points in the process - and his teammates pelted the Battalion goaltenders with 51 shots in what will go down as a Family Day classic at The Arena at TD Place. Ottawa has now gone 15 games without a regulation loss (14-0-1)
Tye Felhaber was the only 67's player not wearing a #8 jersey to find the back of the net in this one, while Mikey DiPietro picked up his second win in as many days for the first-place Barber Poles.
The 67's are back in action on Friday night when they head to Kingston to take on the Frontenacs.
What they're saying
Andre Tourigny, 67's Head Coach
On Sasha Chmelevski's five-goal game... "He got rewarded for all his efforts. He's a guy that works extremely hard, so I'm very happy to see him get rewarded with a big game like that ... He was at the right place at the right time, good in his positioning and he took advantage of it."
Sasha Chmelevski, 67's forward
"I think my energy during the game was very high and it allowed me to play really well. At the same time, I think my line mates did a great job giving me the puck, so I was fortunate to have a great night."
On having such a big performance in front of a packed house... "I've been waiting for this game for a while now. The Family Game always has a lot of fans out there and it's a lot of fun to play. You get the kids buzzing, they're laughing and hollering and it just gives you a lot of energy as a player because you want to make the fans proud."
Game Notes
Chmelevski was one goal shy of tying the 67's all-time record for goals in a game. Tim Young had six in a game back on January 24, 1975.
In addition to his five goals, Chmelevski won 12 of 17 face-offs.
Of Ottawa's 51 shots, 40 of them came in the first two periods.
Sam Bitten had three assists in the win. Lucas Chiodo also had a multi-point outing, with a pair of assists.
The 67's scored 20 goals in their three games this weekend, all wins.
