Chivas USA's Michael Umaña Called up for Costa Rican National Team Friendly

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, August 5, 2010) - Chivas USA defender Michael Umaña has been called up to play for the Costa Rican National Team in its upcoming international friendly next week against Paraguay on August 11. Umaña will join his national team after Chivas USA's match against Toronto FC this weekend and will return to Los Angeles on August 12, before the Red-and-White's match against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, August 14.

Umaña, 28, leads Chivas USA in minutes played this season, having started all 16 matches for the Red-and-White in MLS play. The veteran defender has made 40 appearances with the Costa Rican National Team, including playing 90 minutes in all three matches the team played at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He also played the bulk of Costa Rica's matches in 2010 World Cup Qualifying, has played in three Gold Cups with the squad, and was a part of Costa Rica's Olympic Team in 2004.

Chivas USA travels to face Toronto FC this Saturday, August 7, in a match that will be broadcast live on Prime Ticket, TeleFutura, and W Radio 690 AM at 1:00 p.m. PT. The Red-and-White will then return to Los Angeles ahead of a crucial Western Conference matchup against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, August 14, at 8:00 p.m. PT.
