GOATS LOOK TO RIGHT SHIP AS SEASON ENTERS THE FINAL STRETCH, ONLY 7 GAMES LEFT: With the loss sustained last Saturday Chivas USA's record is now 7-10-10 with 31 points, that occupies the seventh place in the Western Conference. And as the season draws closer to its end Chivas USA will return to action on Saturday September 10 after the Labor Day and well deserved lay-off and face off against East Coast foes DC United in Carson at The Home Depot Center. The match is scheduled for kick off at 7:30 pm (Pacific Time), and will be broadcast on TV through KDOC-TV and KWHY Channel 22, and Radio on W Radio 690 AM. TOTAL OF FIVE GOATS CALLED UP FOR INTERNATIONAL DUTY THIS WEEK: Five Chivas USA players have been called-up to play international matches with their national teams this week. Defender Heath Pearce has been called up for a second time by new US Men's National Team Head Coach, Jurgen Klinsmann. Unfortunately for Pearce he will miss his call up due to a hamstring injury sustained in the August 27 match versus RSL. US National team faces Costa Rica in a friendly on September 2 at The Home Depot Center 8:00 p.m. PT. where fellow teammate and call up for Costa Rica's National Team, Goats Defender Michael Umaña will defend his tri-color. Canada begins its quest to Brazil 2014 with a pair of World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for September 2 and 6. Chivas USA defender Ante Jazic, has been named to the Canadian National Team for World Cup Qualifying matches against St. Lucia and Puerto Rico. The first match against St. Lucia is scheduled for Friday September 2 at BMO Field in Toronto Canada, 5 p.m. PT. Venezuelan veteran forward for Chivas USA Alejandro Moreno has returned this week to his native Venezuela in preparation for next week's match against Guinea scheduled for Tuesday September 6 in Caracas' Estadio Olimpico de la Universidad Central. This is Moreno's second call up so far this year, in which La Vinotinto has become a significant national symbol that is generating much international praise after their exceptional run at Copa America in Argentina earlier this summer. Michael Lahoud was additionally called up by Sierra Leone but has not determined whether or not he will be incorporating or not, Lahoud is currently nursing a right ankle injury.
CHIVAS USA SHUT OUT TWICE IN LESS THAN A WEEK: Chivas USA closed its fifth-consecutive road game with a loss (0-1) against its MLS Western Conference rival, Portland Timbers. The match took place at the Jeld-Wen Field before 18,627 fans on Wednesday August 24. Both squads created many goal opportunities in the first half of the match but only one team capitalized. The only goal of the game came at the 44th minute through a corner kick in favor of Timbers, Chabala cashed it and defender Eric Brunner jumped to meet the ball and softly deflected it with a header, enough to place it to the second post, far from Kennedy who could not do nothing to avoid for the ball to end in the back of his net. This weekend finally marked the return to The Home Depot center after an absence of over a month for the Goats as they faced off with Western Conference power house Real Salt Lake before a crowd of 14,127. Saturday night was the home field debut for three new Goats; Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel, Frenchman midfielder Laurent Courtois, and Brazilian defender David Junior Lopes. Unfortunately for the Red and White they were unable to capitalize even after RSL was down a man because of a red card in the 25th minute as Chivas USA dropped a heartbreaker to Real Salt Lake 1 nil.
CHIVAS USA FOUNDATION HOSTED ITS 5TH ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC ON MONDAY: Goats players, the ChivaGirls and Laker Girls joined by PADRES Celebrity supporters Yancey Arias, Oskar Cartaya and Victor Razuk at annual fundraising event, Chivas USA's foundation, Fundaci�n Chivas de Corazon USA hosted its 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament this Monday, August 29th at the Industry Hills Golf Course Pacific Palms Resort. Part of the proceeds raised at the event will benefit club community partner, PADRES Contra El Cancer, the non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families. This was the first time that Chivas USA's Fundacion Chivas de Corazon USA designated part of the proceeds from its annual golf tournament to a specific cause, an effort spearheaded by the team's leadership aimed at supporting hundreds of local children and families affected by the devastating disease. The entire Chivas USA team, coaching staff, club, and PADRES executives were out on the green that day. The event also hosted a number of special PADRES Ambassador celebrity guests including Yancey Arias (actor), Oskar Cartaya, (musician) and Victor Razuk (actor). To generate awareness for pediatric cancer amongst its fans and supporters, Chivas USA will continue its support of PADRES on September 10 when the club will host nearly two-hundred children and families at a Chivas USA HEART Soccer Camp. Team alum Jimmy Conrad and Super Estrella 107.1 radio host and PADRES Ambassador Keven Ramirez will take part in meet & greet and game day activities with participants. Details on additional activities for that day will be released early next month.
JIMMY CONRAD OFFICIALLY RETIRES AS A PROFESSIONAL PLAYER BUT NOT FROM SOCCER: The veteran defender for the Red and White, Jimmy Conrad, announced his official retirement as a professional soccer player during a press conference on Thursday August 18at the Home Depot Center, home of Chivas USA in Carson, California. "I spoke to people that are close to me, like my family, but mainly it was the doctors and coaches who helped me come to this conclusion. They informed me that it was probably in my best interest to retire, you know after six 'documented' concussions." expressed Conrad. "The doctors couldn't tell me what was going to happen if I suffered another one, what the long-term damage would be. I still have symptoms, I still have a headache that comes and goes. So, they basically said that this is probably what I should do (retire). I've had a good career, and a lot to be proud of so I think this is probably in my best interest to shut it down." The now former Goats Defender also spoke of his long term and immediate future plans as well as his involvement with Chivas USA Youth Academy, "I know we're working on restructuring our youth system, and I will be heavily involved with the development of the Chivas USA youth academy."
FRANCISCO "PANCHITO" MENDOZA TIES CHIVAS USA APPEARANCE RECORD: Mendoza has now played in 123 games for Chivas USA, tying Jonathan Bornstein's record and needing only one more game appearance to surpass and become the all time leader. "Panchito" Mendoza, the Mexican player with the most all-time Major League Soccer appearances, returned to Chivas USA this season after playing the past two years in Mexico. The fan favorite and Chivas USA original has now appeared in 12 matches this season, and passed Sacha Kljestan's 114 appearances earlier this year.

CHIVAS USA ANNOUNCES UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP WITH PADRES CONTRA EL CANCER: Chivas USA announced an in-depth partnership with PADRES Contra El Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Latino families with children who suffer from cancer and blood disorders. The mission-driven relationship will support PADRES and include fundraising and awareness campaigns that will engage Chivas USA team members, the team's own non-profit Fundacion Chivas de Corazon USA, as well as link elements from Chivas USA's sister-team Club Deportivo Chivas de Guadalajara. Over the course of this summer, Chivas USA will designate part of the proceeds from the ticket sales from a number of home matches to benefit PADRES, all of which will culminate with a unique night scheduled for September. PEARCE'S CONSECUTIVE MINUTES STREAK ENDS: Defender Heath Pearce had played every minute so far this season, his first with Chivas USA up until the 61st minute of this past Saturday night's match. He has started all twenty six games for the Red-and-White, playing a total of 2,311 minutes. Pearce was forced to leave the pitch because of a hamstring injury he suffered thus ending he's remarkable consecutive minutes streak. Nick LaBrocca is the only other players to have started all twenty six games, but he was substituted as well earlier in the season.
