CARSON, Calif. (Monday, July 24, 2006) - After defeating rivals Club América in the InterClásico presented by La Curacao on Sunday, Chivas USA travels to Salt Lake City this Wednesday searching for a win against Real Salt Lake (Kickoff: 6:00 p.m. PT; TV: FSN PRIME TICKET; Radio: KTNQ 1020 AM Univision Radio; Web: MLSLIVE.tv). The Red-and-White look to build on their success Wednesday against Real, who have played Chivas six times since the teams joined MLS at the beginning of 2005. Following Wednesday's match, Chivas USA's players will enjoy a four-day midseason break before resuming training next Monday ahead of its August 6 showdown with the New England Revolution at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, in a doubleheader also featuring FC Barcelona vs. Chivas Guadalajara.

CHIVAS USA CLAIMS SECOND INTERCLÁSICO: Chivas USA won the 'InterClásico presented by La Curcao' on Sunday, July 23 against Club América, longtime rival of Chivas Guadalajara. The Red-and-White scored first, when Juan Francisco Palencia knocked home a penalty kick in the 18th minute. The Eagles from Mexico City got a late goal, in the 81st minute, to tie the game. When the game ended in a draw, the teams went directly to penalties to decide the winner of the Copa InterClásico. Brad Guzan came up huge for Chivas USA, saving the fourth and sixth kicks that he faced to earn the win for his team.

BORNSTEIN PLAYER OF THE WEEK: After a two-goal performance in Colorado last Thursday night, Chivas USA rookie Jonathan Bornstein was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week. Bornstein dribbled through two Rapids defenders before slotting the ball past Joe Cannon for his first goal of the night. His, second, even more spectacular, was a left-footed volley from 20 yards out in injury time, a strike that has also been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week honors. The brace came for Bornstein came in his first start at forward. Fans can vote for Bornstein's strike in the Goal of the Week race by visiting MLSnet.com before Wednesday.

TWO CHIVAS TO JOIN THE U.S. U-20'S: The United States Under-20 National Team will be heading off to the 2006 Northern Ireland Milk Cup this week, and the team's roster features Chivas USA players Rodrigo Lopez and Carlos Borja. The two players are both on the Developmental roster for Chivas USA. The Milk Cup is an annual youth tournament with Junior, Premier and Elite groups, and the U.S. will be trying to retain the Elite title it won in 2005 over other countries' U-20 national squads.

100-HOUR GAME: On Saturday, Chivas USA, its 'Fundación Chivas de Corazón USA' and the City of Bell Gardens announced a celebratory 100-hour soccer game, featuring teams from Chivas and the Rest of the World, that will commemorate the 100 year history of Club Deportivo Guadalajara. The event will take place in the new Bell Gardens Sports Center, starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, and ending on Sunday, August 13, at 5:00 p.m., at which point the new 10-million dollar sports complex, a joint project between the City of Bell Gardens and Chivas USA, will be inaugurated. Former Club América player Paco Uribe will be the honorary captain for the Rest of the World team, while the Chivas squad will be captained by former Chivas Guadalajara and Chivas USA goalkeeper Martín 'El Pulpo' Zúñiga.

GUADALAJARA UPDATE: On Thursday, July 20, Club Deportivo Guadalajara came away with a 2-1 win against Vélez Sarsfield in the quarterfinals of South America's biggest club tournament, the Copa Libertadores. Ramón Morales scored the first goal on a penalty kick, and Adolfo Bautista scored the winner to put Chivas in a semifinal match-up against defending champion São Paulo. Chivas have already played São Paulo twice in the group stage, winning both games (one in Mexico and one in Brazil) by the same scoreline, 2-1. The first leg of the semifinal will be played on Wednesday in Guadalajara, and the return leg is in São Paulo on August 2.

BARCELONA COMING TO LOS ANGELES: UEFA Champions League winner and Spanish champion FC Barcelona began training in Spain on Monday, July 17 in preparation for the 2006-2007 season. The squad will get its World Cup players back on August 1 before its trip to the United States. Individual tickets are now on sale to see Barcelona in Los Angeles on August 6 to face Club Deportivo Guadalajara at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Ronaldinho, Messi, Márquez and Eto'o will be among the stars that will face the Mexican squad in the doubleheader that will also include Chivas USA vs. the New England Revolution, starting at 4:00 p.m. PT. GAME AT FC DALLAS MOVED TO SEPT. 13: Please note that Chivas USA's second game of the season at FC Dallas, originally scheduled for Wednesday, August 16, has been changed to Wednesday, September 13. Kickoff time is at 7:30 p.m. CT, and the game will still be shown live by FSN PRIME TICKET and broadcast live on radio via KTNQ 1020 AM Univision Radio.
