Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Monday, February 14, 2005) - Club Deportivo Chivas USA announced Monday its schedule for its inaugural Major League Soccer campaign. The Mexican-owned expansion franchise will open the 32-game MLS regular season against defending champions D.C. United (12 p.m. PT, live on ABC) on April 2 at The Home Depot Center, and also closes the season at home, against New Jersey-based MetroStars.
For the first time in 2005, the city of Los Angeles and all of the Southland will revel in all of the passion of a top-flight intra-city soccer rivalry, when Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy square off in a matchup that appears four times on the 2005 MLS calendar. The Galaxy play host to the first "Clásico" on April 23, while Chivas USA host the Galaxy on October 8 on the second-to-last weekend of the season. The other two editions of the "Clásico Angelino" will take place on May 28 and June 16 (see schedule below).
In all, the Red-and-White will face its Western Conference rivals (San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas and fellow expansion team Real Salt Lake) four times: twice on the road and twice at home. The Red-and-White face the six teams of MLS's Eastern Conference (D.C. United, MetroStars, Columbus Crew, New England Revolution, Chicago Fire and Kansas City Wizards) only twice each: once on the road, and once at home.
The only way to reserve a seat today for any of these matches is by buying your "ChivaBono" (season ticket package that includes all 16 home games for Chivas USA, plus three bonus games, at a price of $16 per game); or by purchasing a five- or ten-game ticket package, starting at $18 and $17 per game, respectively. A complete list of the games included in these new ticket plans, as well as Club Deportivo Chivas USA's official schedule for the 2005 Major League Soccer season, are listed below.
