Chivas USA to Host Charlotte Eagles in U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, June 22, 2012) - Chivas USA will continue their 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run on Tuesday June 26th, at 7:30 pm (PT) hosting a quarterfinal match-up against the Charlotte Eagles at Titan Stadium on the campus of Cal State Fullerton, California. There will be a live video streaming of the game through cdchivasusa.com .

Chivas USA started this year's U.S. Open Cup campaign in the third round, beating PDL side Ventura County Fusion 1-0 in Ventura, California. In the fourth round, Chivas USA traveled to North Carolina, where they beat the NASL's Carolina RailHawks FC 2-1.

The Charlotte Eagles are based in Charlotte, North Carolina and play in the USL Pro Division, the third tier of American soccer. The Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals beating El Paso Patriots 1-0 in the second round, FC Dallas 2-0 in the third round, and the San Antonio Scorpions 2-1 in the fourth round. All of Eagles' wins came on the road. Chivas USA and the Charlotte Eagles met in the third round of the 2005 U.S. Open Cup, with the Red-and-White taking a 3-2 victory in extra time.

Quarterfinals Take Place June 26 with Five MLS Teams, Three USL PRO Teams Remaining

U.S. Soccer has announced the semifinal possible pairings and locations for the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Results from the quarterfinal round of play next Tuesday, June 26, will determine the matchups for the semifinals taking place on Tuesday, July 10, and Wednesday, July 11.

The remaining eight-team field consists of five MLS (Division I) teams - three-time defending champion Seattle Sounders FC, Chivas USA, the Philadelphia Union, San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City. The other three organizations represent USL PRO (Division III) - the Charlotte Eagles, Dayton Dutch Lions and Harrisburg City Islanders.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, which is recognized as U.S. Soccer's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The tournament has crowned a champion for 98 consecutive years dating back to 1914. The winner will have its name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
