CHIVAS USA TAKES ON LA GALAXY IN HONDA SUPERCLÃSCIO ON SUNDAY: Chivas USA will take on the LA Galaxy in the second Honda Super Clásico of 2010 this Sunday at 5:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in a grudge match against the in-stadium rivals. The Red-and-White, on the brink of playoff elimination, will be looking for a measure of revenge against the Western Conference leading Galaxy, who earned a 2-0 win over Chivas in the first match between the clubs this year, on April 1. Tickets for the 'Battle of LA' are available at www.cdchivasusa.com and by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1.
BOTH CHIVAS AND GALAXY LOOKING TO RETURN TO FORM IN IMPORTANT MATCH: While Chivas USA still has an outside shot at a playoff position, the Galaxy are firmly entrenched in the postseason, but both teams are coming off losses this past weekend and will be looking to get back on track. The Red-and-White fell 3-0 at the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, while the Galaxy dropped a 2-0 decision to the New York Red Bulls at The Home Depot Center on Friday night. The Galaxy will be led by Landon Donovan and David Beckham, who recently returned from a lengthy absence due to injury, while Chivas USA will look to leading scorer Justin Braun and World Cup veteran Jonathan Bornstein, looking for his first start since suffering a hip injury on September 1. UNION ULTRAS TO TAKE ON ANGEL CITY BRIGADE IN PRE-CLÃSICO FRIENDLY: As fans of both Chivas and the Galaxy prepare to cheer on their teams on Sunday, a pair of supporters groups will take the rivalry to the next level as the Union Ultras (Chivas USA fans) take on the Angel City Brigade (Galaxy fans) in a friendly match on Saturday night. The game, which is designed as match to show the mutual respect between the two supporters groups while building the friendly rivalry, will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Field 5 at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, October 2. CHIVAS USA MIDFIELDER SAL ZIZZO GETS FIRST START: Chivas USA midfielder Sal Zizzo, a UCLA alum from San Diego, got his first MLS start on Saturday at Philadelphia in the Red-and-White's 3-0 loss. A midfielder, Zizzo lined up on the right side of the field and played the first 54 minutes of the game before being substituted. Zizzo joined the Red-and-White in August after three years in Germany with Hannover 96 of the Bundesliga, and is still regaining full fitness after a knee injury suffered late in 2009. On his first start, Zizzo said: "It was really cool. I didn't really ever get a chance in Germany to do that, so it was a great feeling to start fresh and play in MLS. I wish the result had been better - it wasn't the way we can play and I think the whole team knows that - but for me personally it was a huge step and I hope there are many more to come."
CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT HELPS RAISE MONEY FOR 'FUNDACIÃN CHIVAS DE CORAZÃN USA': Chivas USA held its fourth annual 'Fundación Chivas de Corazón' Charity Golf Tournament on Monday at the Pacific Palms Resort in City of Industry, helping raise money for the team's charitable organization. The 'Fundación Chivas de Corazón USA' helps provide educational, athletic, and recreational opportunities for the youth of the Greater Los Angeles Area. With a full slate of golfers playing alongside the entire Chivas USA squad, the event was a success for the fourth straight year. JONATHAN BORNSTEIN NOW WITH SEVERAL CHIVAS USA RECORDS: In his final season with the Red-and-White before joining Tigres UANL of the Mexican First Division, Los Alamitos native Jonathan Bornstein has taken hold of several Chivas USA all-time records. The versatile defender, who was with the United States at the World Cup in South Africa this summer, is the team's all-time leader in games played (118), games started (113), and minutes played (10,257). Despite spending most of his time on the defensive end, Bornstein has also pitched in nine goals and nine assists in his career. The UCLA alum has entered the last two Chivas USA games as a substitute after recovering from a hip injury and will be looking to regain his spot in the starting lineup for Sunday's Honda Super Clásico against the LA Galaxy. NAGAMURA CLOSES IN ON MLS RECORD FOR BRAZILIANS: Chivas USA midfielder Paulo Nagamura, who was reacquired by the team on June 25 after a six month stint in Mexico, has played a total of 141 regular season MLS games, the second-most all-time for a Brazilian player in the league. Nagamura, who has played 83 of his 141 games in a Chivas USA uniform, is just four matches short of the leader, Welton, who played in MLS from 1996-2000. In 83 matches (79 starts) for Chivas USA, Nagamura has nine goals and seven assists, and scored his first goal since rejoining the team in the 2-0 win over the New England Revolution on September 10, and will be facing his first MLS team, the LA Galaxy, on Sunday in the Honda Super Clásico.
KENNEDY AND ZAMORA HELP LOCAL GROUP PUT UP PLAYGROUND IN INGLEWOOD: Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy and midfielder Cesar Zamora were among a group of almost 300 volunteers that helped build a playground in Inglewood in just one day, an event which took place last Thursday. The playground was part of The Home Depot Foundation's September project, "Celebration of Service: 30 Days of Green." Says Kennedy: "One of my goals is to give back to the community and I would really like to give back to the youth in the communities that come out and support us." The list was announced last week by U.S. Soccer and includes 40 of the best players in the country. "We're thrilled that two players from our youth system will be in Bradenton with the United States Under-17 National Team this fall," said Chivas USA Vice President of Soccer Operations Stephen Hamilton.
