Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, April 17, 2014) - Chivas USA announced today that the club has signed midfielder Matthew Dunn. The 20-year-old midfielder played under Red-and-White Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera as a member of the U.S. U-17 Men's National Team, playing in all four matches in the 2011 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
"Matt is a young player who has been developed at the international level in Germany, Serbia and Switzerland, as well as in the United States," said Chivas USA Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. "His ability to adapt to different environments and styles has allowed him to learn how to read the game very well. His knowledge, together with his good pace, touches on the ball and eagerness to help win the ball will be key to our team's success moving forward."
A native of Dallas, Texas, Dunn spent two years in Germany with FC Cologne's Youth Academy before signing with Serbian side OFK Beograd at the age of 18. The midfielder then moved on to enroll at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, where he recorded seven goals and 10 assists in 17 starts for the Bengals during his freshman campaign. Dunn joins recently signed midfielder Martin Rivero in adding depth to the Goats' roster heading into Week 7.
Chivas USA now return home after Saturday's 1-1 tie at Portland to continue their four-game stretch against conference opponents when they host Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. (PT) at StubHub Center. Tickets are available for purchase here or by calling 1-877-CHIVAS1. The match will mark the first leg of the three-game season series against the Sounders and can be heard live on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKU 1220 AM.
