August 30, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA announced today the signing of forward Matthew Fondy. The Northern Californian native was the leading goal scorer for an LA Blues side that reached the USL-PRO Quarterfinals this season. Fondy will be eligible for selection when the Red-and-White travel to Vancouver Whitecaps FC this weekend. Per club and Major League Soccer policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

The 24-year-old joins the Red-and-White after a prominent 2013 season with the LA Blues. Fondy recorded 10 goals and delivered two assists in just 10 regular-season games with the Blues, and with only six weeks into the USL-PRO season, the striker earned his fourth "Team of the Week" honors on Aug. 13.

The UC Santa Cruz graduate and 2009 NSCAA Division III All-American turned pro in 2011 when he signed for USL-PRO Pittsburgh Riverhounds. That same season Fondy made his professional debut on April 9 against the Richmond Kickers and scored his first goal against F.C. New York on May 21.

If selected by Chivas USA Head Coach Jose Luis Real, Fondy will be available to join the 18-man squad who will travel to face Western Conference rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Sunday, Sept. 1, starting at 4 p.m. (PT).

The game against the Whitecaps will be broadcast live in English and Spanish on KDOC and MundoFOX22 KWHY-TV. For radio listeners, the Red-and-White's game will air on W Radio 690 AM.
