Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Monday, April 14, 2014) - Chivas USA announced today that the club has signed defender and 2014 Fourth-Round SuperDraft pick Michael Nwiloh. The Georgia State University product joined the Red-and-White at the start of preseason after being selected in January. Since his arrival to the Goats, the defender has worked hard to finally earn a spot on the club's 26-man roster.
"Michael is a young player who has a lot of potential," said Chivas USA Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. "He is a very tall, athletic and physical center back with good technique. He joins our club eager to work hard and learn in a professional environment from experienced players like Carlos Bocanegra."
The 23-year-old center back appeared in six games during preseason, helping the Goats secure a second-place finish in the Desert Diamond Cup. Nwiloh most recently started in his second Reserve League match last Monday against Sacramento Republic FC, going the full 90 minutes at home.
The 6-foot-3 Georgia native made 73 starts in 75 career appearances at GSU after redshirting his freshman year. The defender helped anchor the Panthers' back line and was named to the 2013 NSCAA All-South Region Second Team.
Chivas USA now return home after Saturday's 1-1 tie at Portland to continue their four-game stretch against conference opponents when they host Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. (PT) at StubHub Center. Tickets are available for purchase here or by calling 1-877-CHIVAS1. The match will mark the first leg of the three-game season series and can be heard live on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKU 1220 AM.
