Chivas USA heads to D.C. for important match on Saturday as playoff chase heats up

CHIVAS USA TRAVELS TO D.C. FOR CRUCIAL ROAD MATCH THIS SATURDAY: Chivas USA hits the road for a match at D.C. United this Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. ET), a game which has major playoff implications for both clubs. Chivas USA (11-9-5, 38 points) sits in a tie with Seattle Sounders FC for fourth place in the Western Conference, but is holding onto a playoff spot as one of the top eight teams in the league. D.C. United (8-7-12, 36 points) currently sits just outside a playoff spot, and will be looking its first victory over the Red-and-White since the 2007 season. The match will be broadcast live in Southern California on Prime Ticket, starting with a pregame show at 4:00 p.m. PT.

SIGHTS SET ON PLAYOFFS FOR RED-AND-WHITE WITH THREE REGULAR SEASON HOME GAMES REMAINING: Chivas USA has just five matches left in the 2009 regular season, three of which will be played at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The first game is the Saturday, Oct. 10 matchup against the Kansas City Wizards, followed by a battle with Western Conference rival San Jose Earthquakes a week later, on Saturday, Oct. 17, with both matches starting at 7:30 p.m. PT. The final game of the regular season comes on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 12:00 noon PT against the Houston Dynamo, a game in which Chivas USA will celebrate "Fan Appreciation Day" at the stadium. FLORES, MAYÉN AND THE U.S. U-20'S TAKE ON CAMEROON ON TUESDAY: Coming off a difficult 3-0 loss to reigning European Champion Germany in the team's opening match of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, the United States U-20's will take on Cameroon on Tuesday in Egypt. Chivas USA midfielders Jorge Flores and Gerson Mayén both played against Germany on Saturday, with Mayén starting the match and playing 90 minutes, and Flores entering the match in the first half as a substitute. After Tuesday's match against Cameroon, which kicks off at 9:45 a.m. PT, the U.S. closes group play against South Korea on Oct. 2 at 9:45 a.m. PT. All three of the USA's group matches will be played at the brand new Mubarak Stadium in Suez, and will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks, as well as Galavision. CHIVAS USA U-18 AND U-16 TEAMS TO START DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY SEASON THIS WEEKEND: This weekend, the Chivas USA Under-18 and Under-16 Teams will kick off Development Academy action with a trip to Washington state for a pair of games. On Saturday, both clubs will take on Crossfire Premier, and then on Sunday will face Washington Premier FC. This is the third season for the Red-and-White in the Development Academy, a national youth development initiative started by U.S. Soccer which includes 77 of the top youth soccer programs in the country. UNION ULTRAS VIEWING PARTY THIS SATURDAY FOR MATCH VS. D.C. UNITED: The Union Ultras, a supporters group of Chivas USA, will be holding a viewing party for Saturday's game against D.C. United. The group will be meeting at Shamrock Seafood Restaurant at 120 West 'G' Street in Wilmington at 3:30 p.m. PT for the game, and fans of all ages are welcome to join the Ultras as they root on the Red-and-White in Saturday's important match!

CHIVAS USA EARNS TIE WITH NEW YORK RED BULLS AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER: Chivas USA earned a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center, keeping the Red-and-White in a tie for 4th place in the Western Conference as the team pushes for a fourth consecutive playoff berth. Sacha Kljestan gave Chivas USA the lead in the 64th minute with his fourth goal of the season, a long-range effort on an assist from Cuban striker Maykel Galindo. New York equalized late in the game with a Juan Pablo Angel header in minute 84. Chivas USA dominated the run of play and had a chance to win the match in injury time, but a Kljestan penalty kick went wide of the net to keep the match tied at one. Chivas USA remains in a playoff spot with five matches to play, holding two games in hand over Seattle, who are tied with the Red-and-White in the standings, as well as the three teams ahead of the team.

GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Chivas de Guadalajara took a 1-1 draw with Pumas in Mexico City this past Saturday, moving the team to 1-0-1 (W-L-T) under new head coach Raúl Arias. Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez scored his sixth goal of the Apertura season, tying him for third place in the Mexican First Division. Chivas now looks to next Saturday's home match against Monterrey at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara.
