FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph was voted Major League Soccer's player of the week following his two-goal performance in the Revolution's 2-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Major League Soccer player of the week is selected each week by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).

Joseph's two-goal performance was his third multiple-goal game of his career, and included his team-best seventh and eighth goals of the season, which marked a new career high for the Grenada international.

Setting new career highs with eight goals and eight assists - and splitting the season between defensive midfield and forward - Joseph has solidified his position in the discussion for MLS' 2009 most valuable player award. While continuing his role as a defensive pillar through the middle of the field, the versatile 31-year-old has also been the Revolution's driving force on the attacking end, scoring or assisting on 16 of the club's 31 goals this season.

This is Joseph's first-ever player of the week award, and the team's third of the season. Taylor Twellman earned the award following a two-goal performance, including his 100th career goal, against the New York Red Bulls in Week 12, while Kheli Dube's hat trick against Real Salt Lake in Week 23 also earned him the honor.

The Revolution (10-8-7, 37 pts.) currently sits third in the Eastern Conference, and returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 30, when the team travels to Dallas to face FC Dallas at 7 p.m. ET at the Cotton Bowl. Comcast Sports Net New England will televise the game live.
