Red Bull New York News Release
BULLS LOOK TO RUMBLE THE 'QUAKES: The New York Red Bulls continue a three-game road swing on Saturday, when they travel to California for the second-straight week to take on the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium at 11:00 PM ET (TV: FSC, FSE; Radio: WADO 1280 AM).
New York was able to earn their second road point of the year last Saturday, when Juan Pablo Angel's game-tying goal in the 84th minute gave the Red Bulls a 1-1 tie against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center. The Red Bulls are now 4-17-6 (18 pts.) in MLS Regular Season action. New York is now 2-1-2 in its five matches under interim head coach Richie Williams, who took the reigns on Aug. 22, after the resignation of Juan Carlos Osorio.
They take on a San Jose Earthquakes squad that earned three points on the road for the first time this season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over D.C. United at RFK Stadium Sunday. Jaime Moreno put D.C. United in front in the 26th minute. However, a free kick from Ramon Sanchez tied the game in the 58th minute, before Earthquakes leading scorer Ryan Johnson tallied his ninth goal of the season when he headed in a rebound 17 minutes from full time. San Jose improved to 6-12-7 (25 pts.) with the win.
The Red Bulls are 8-13-6 all-time against San Jose in regular season action and 2-0 versus the Earthquakes in all competitions in 2009. New York squared off against San Jose in 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup action on April 29 and won, 2-1, over the Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium. Mike Petke and John Wolyniec scored for the visitors while Pablo Campos tallied for San Jose. New York was able to extend its regular season unbeaten three to three against San Jose with a 4-1 win at Giants Stadium on May 8. Red Bulls forward Macoumba Kandji, who went on to win the MLS Player of the Week award, had a hand in all four first half goals, while Jorge Rojas scored twice.
ANGEL LIFTS RED BULLS TO 1-1 TIE: Juan Pablo Angel returned to the lineup after missing two matches and headed home a Sinisa Ubiparipovic cross in the 84th minute to lift the Red Bulls to a 1-1 draw against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. The goal is Angel's 10th of the season and 46th with the club, giving him the franchise mark in goals in all competitions, passing Clint Mathis.
Chivas USA midfielder Sasha Kljestan scored the opening goal of the match in the 64th minute, when he gained control of the ball near midfield after the Red Bulls lost possession. Kljestan then sprinted downfield and fired a deflected shot from 25 yards out into the top right corner over the diving Bouna Coundoul. Kljestan had the chance to win it in extra time when Chivas was awarded a penalty kick after Red Bulls defender Andrew Boyens handled the ball in the box. Klejstan stepped to the spot but fired it wide left and the match ended.
MSG TV CHANGE: One Red Bulls match originally scheduled to be telecast live on MSG was switched to another channel, as New York's Oct. 24 clash against Toronto FC at 7:30 PM was moved from MSG to MSG 2.
JPA BREAKS GOALS RECORD: Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel surpassed Clint Mathis for the club's record for goals scored in all competitions with his 84th minute strike in a 1-1 draw against Chivas USA on Saturday, Sept. 26. Angel has 46 goals in all competitions, 43 of which were scored in the regular season. He scored his 46th goal in just his 78th appearance, garnering a strike rate of 0.59 goals per match. Mathis needed 100 appearances to reach 45 goals. Angel also eclipsed the team's regular season goal mark of 41, scoring his 42nd in just 68 matches (0.60 goals per regular season game).

BULLS, DJJ PARTNER TO HOST CLINIC: On Wednesday, September 30th, more than 100 kids from Horizon Juvenile Center in The Bronx will face off against members of the New York Red Bulls soccer team in a professional soccer clinic held annually for young people in detention.
Some of the most recognized members of the New York Red Bulls soccer team, including Jorge Rojas, Jeremy Hall, Nick Zimmerman, Fernando Ruiz and Assistant Coach Cris da Silva, will demonstrate game strategies and instruct juvenile residents on the sport of soccer, teamwork, game rules, scoring and techniques. Red Bulls Managing Director Erik Stover will also attend the event. The clinic will culminate in a tournament between teams made up of residents, staff and Red Bulls players.
The annual event is designed to promote pro-social skills and empower young people in detention to make more positive life choices.
"The kids really look forward to the Red Bulls clinic," said Horizon Juvenile Center Executive Director Eduardo Marcial. "It's an exciting opportunity for them to meet and learn from professional athletes, and compete in a one-of-a-kind soccer competition."
"Sports can help young people find their way in life, and through this annual soccer clinic, we hope we can provide leadership for those who need it most," said Stover. "We are once again happy to visit Horizon Juvenile Center and provide a soccer clinic for the young people there."
"The Red Bulls clinic is a chance for the boys and girls at Horizon to take part in a healthy athletic activity," Sonia Galarza, DJJ Director of Program Services, said. "It gives them the opportunity to meet well-known soccer stars and match their skills against professional players."
The soccer clinic is intended to promote camaraderie and team play, and will provide more than 100 young residents with a unique opportunity to meet and interact with professional sports players and learn about the sport of soccer.
In addition to the Horizon Juvenile Center, the New York Red Bulls have conducted clinics at Crossroads Juvenile Center in Brooklyn, as well as at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island for youth in the care of the Department's group home system.
The Department of Juvenile Justice was created in 1979 to provide care and custody to juveniles involved in the criminal and juvenile justice system. Each year, the Department provides secure and non-secure detention services to more than 5,000 youth whose cases await adjudication in New York Family, Criminal and Supreme Courts.

RED BULL ACADEMY UPDATE: SEPT. 28
A LOOK BACK:
U20s: The Red Bull U20s are not in season.
U18s: The Red Bull U18s are not in season.
U16s: The Red Bull U16s are not in season.
U15s: The Red Bull U15s are not in season.
U14s: The Red Bull U14s are currently involved in two competitions, as the US Club Northeast Pre Academy League exhibition season is underway, as well as the New Jersey State Cup tournament.
In a Pre Academy League exhibition match, the U14s defeated U14 FC Westchester, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon, September 26, in Purchase, NY. Adam Najem (Clifton, NJ) scored off a beautiful pass from Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, NY) with 10 minutes left in the game to secure the win for the Red Bulls. Matt Miazga (Clifton, NJ) and Killian Collins were solid as center backs and Santiago Castano (Union City, NJ) was solid in goal to preserve the shutout victory.
"Today was another good day for us to play against another good team," said U14 head coach Rob Elliott. "It is early in the process for this group and we are making strides with every game. I am excited to see where this group ends up at the end of the season."
Also on Saturday, September 25, the U14 1996 State Cup Team dropped a 2-1 decision to Montclair Gauchos in the tournament's first round. Montclair started the game well and the young Red Bulls found themselves down, 2-0, within 15 minutes. The Red Bulls regrouped and raised their level of play. The U14s were rewarded with a penalty kick that unfortunately hit the cross bar. The second half looked much better for the young group. Pushing numbers up and pressing, the Red Bulls kept the Gauchos in their own half for long periods of the second half, which resulted in a beautiful goal from J.P. Rojas, who put the ball over the goalkeeper to finish a great pass from Dugan Zier. The goal wasn't enough to get a better result for the young group, and they were eliminated from the tournament.
On Sunday, September 27, the U14s were defeated by U14 Manhattan Kickers, 1-0. The U14 96 team never got a grip of the game. The Kickers were very aggressive and up to fight for every ball, and the Red Bulls did not match up their game and found it difficult to find a rhythm. The Kickers scored the only goal of the game after the Red Bulls failed to clear the ball in the box and the Kickers forward poked it home.
"It is hard for the group because they are in an adjustment process, as we have been together for a month and they need to know each other better and become more of a team. There are a lot of positives in this group and obviously some mistakes. I'm exited and motivated to see how this group will develop with the course of the season," commented head coach Antonio Meza.
