Chiefs Win 5-2 Friday Night

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs used a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by Ronald Castillo's two-run double, to snap a 2-2 tie and defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-2 on Friday night. The Chiefs record is 24-23 in the second half and 61-55 overall.

The Chiefs broke the scoreless game with a run in the fourth against Javier Salas. With two outs, Castillo singled before Rowan Wick walked. Steve Bean followed with a line drive single to right to plate Castillo and give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Peoria scored again in the next frame as Michael Schulze and Vaughn Bryan each hit singles to begin the fifth. After CJ McElroy Jr. sacrificed both runners into scoring position, Juan Herrera hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Schulze for a 2-0 advantage.

Wisconsin tied the game with single runs in the sixth and seventh against Rob Kaminsky. In the sixth, the Rattlers got leadoff singles by Angel Ortega and Johnny Davis and an error by McElroy in center put both runners in scoring position. Chris McFarland chopped a ball up the middle with Herrera only able to get the out at first to get a run on the board before Kaminsky escaped the threat.

In the seventh, Wisconsin got a one-out double by Omar Garcia and Kaminsky was relieved by Zach Loraine. Garcia stole third before Steven Halcomb looped a single to left to plate Garcia and tie the game at two.

The Chiefs took the lead for good in the eighth with three runs against Victor Diaz. McElroy singled and Herrera bunted him to second. Justin Ringo was intentionally walked and Castillo drilled the first pitch into the left-center field gap to score both runs for a 4-2 Chiefs lead. A wild pitch on strike three to Wick out runners at the corners and Bean hit a sac fly to plate Castillo and cap the scoring at 5-2.

Kaminsky pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Loraine (2-1) tossed 1 2/3 innings on one hit and two strikeouts to get the win. Kyle Barraclough pitched the ninth inning on one walk and two strikeouts for his third save.
