Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, have announced that pitchers Jose Arias and Tyler Bremer have been traded by the Cubs to the Miami Marlins organization. In return, the Cubs have received pitcher Jacob Turner, who is 4-7 with Miami this season and has pitched as a starter and in relief.
The Cougars' bullpen is impacted by the loss of Arias and Bremer, both of whom were part of the Cougars' Opening Day roster in April. Arias (Non-drafted free agent, 2010) was a Midwest League All-Star this season as the right-hander went 1-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 25 relief appearances. Arias was part of last season's Cougars team as well. Bremer (27th round, 2012) had two stints with the Cougars this season. The right-hander went 5-1 with a 2.43 ERA in 28 relief appearances along with 12 saves in 14 chances.
A total of 15 players from the Cougars' Opening Day 25-man roster are not on the current active roster as the road trip continues this evening at Cedar Rapids. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. After the final off-day of the regular season on Monday, the Cougars return home on Tuesday to open a three-game series against Quad Cities at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
An updated roster is attached with this release.
