
Fink's Slam Powers Captains Past TinCaps

(Fort Wayne, IN)- Grant Fink drilled his third Grand Slam of the season to cap a seven run first inning and the Captains beat Fort Wayne 8-5 on Friday Night. Overall, it was Fink's 11th home run on the season. In the inning, Lake County sent 10 batters to the plated and used four hits, two walks and an error to plate seven runs. The win evens the four game series at one win apiece.
Fort Wayne scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Fernando Perez connected for his 11th homer of the season a solo shot and the score was 7-1. The Captains got the run back in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Eric Haase singled home a run and the score was 8-1 Captains. Fort Wane scored a run on a bases loaded balk in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 8-2.
The TinCaps rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Fort Wayne got a one out double from Ronnie Richardson and back to back singles scored Richardson to make the score 8-3. After a walk, the bases were loaded for Fernando Perez. Perez singled home a pair to cut the lead to 8-5, which was the final score of the ballgame.
LHP Anderson Polanco (2-0) started for Lake County and did not get a decision. Polanco pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on two hits, one walk and he fanned two. Caleb Hamrick entered in relief. Hamrick pitched two and one third innings and allowed three hits, four earned runs, three walks and he balked in a run. Justin Brantley (4-0) pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed one hit, one walk and struck out three. Brantley earned the win. Trevor Frank pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 12th save of the season.
RHP Cody Hebner (1-2) started game two for Fort Wayne and took the loss. Hebner pitched one inning and allowed seven runs, three earned runs, two walks and four hits. Hebner allowed the grand slam to Grant Fink. Hebner struck out one. Fort Wayne used three relief pitchers who held the Captains offense to one earned run over the final eight innings of relief.
The Captains will stay in Fort Wayne Indiana on Saturday to continue a four game series with the TinCaps. Lake County will start RHP Dace Kime (6-13, 5.14) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Kyle Lloyd (5-4, 4.13). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Parkview Field.
