Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that they have acquired the rights to forwards Matt Robinson and Michael Lambert (Lam-BEAR) from Alaska in exchange for the rights to forward Alexandre Imbeault.
Robinson, a 23-year-old from South Surrey, British Columbia, racked up 37 points on 19 goals and 18 assists, along with 47 penalty minutes, for the Aces in 2007-08. He also picked up a goal and two assists in the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs in helping Alaska eliminate the defending champion Idaho Steelheads in the first round. Robinson enters his third professional season coming off of a career-high point total in 2007-08. As a rookie in 2006-07 Robinson made a big splash in the ECHL by leading all rookies with 21 even-strength goals. Prior to turning pro, Robinson's 35 goals with Regina (WHL) were second most on the team in 2005-06.
Hailing from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Lambert began last season with Bremerhaven REV of the 2nd Bundesliga in Germany where he picked up 13 points (6G, 7A) in 25 games. The 24-year-old signed with Alaska on February 4, 2008, and scored his first goal, along with an assist, six days later in a 5-3 Aces win over Idaho. He would finish the season with 14 points (8G, 6A) in 28 games with Alaska. A former fourth-round draft pick (99th overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in 2002, Lambert has shown a pention for performing well in the playoffs.
Lambert skated with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs on their way to winning the Calder Cup championship in 2007. He scored an overtime winner against Chicago in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, and added a tally in the Bulldogs' 6-2 romp over Hershey in Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals. In the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs, Lambert scored his first pro hat trick in the fourth game against Idaho to help Long Beach eliminate the defending champions.
