Aces Acquire ECHL All-Star from Johnstown

September 9, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have acquired forward Alexandre Imbeault from the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for left wingers Matt Robinson and Michael Lambert.

The 22-year-old Imbeault led Johnstown with 26 goals in only 56 ECHL games and was named to the American Conference all-star team. He did not appear in the game as a result of being on loan to the Providence Bruins of the AHL, where he scored three goals and assisted on four others in 12 games at the next level. Imbeault completed his rookie year with a solid postseason, contributing eight points (4g-4a) and posting a solid +4 rating in six playoff tilts as the Chiefs advanced to the second round before falling to eventual Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati. He also earned ECHL Player of the Week honors in late February for scoring eight points (3g-5a) and two game-winning goals in a four-game span.

The six-foot, 185-pound native of Montreal played four years of junior hockey in the QMJHL, steadily increasing his goal totals from six to 21 to 29 to 34 in his final season in 2006-07. In his last two junior campaigns, playing for Victoriaville and Chicoutimi, Imbeault racked up a whopping 145 points (63g-82a) in only 116 games.

With left wingers Josh Soares, Scott Burt, and Erik Fabian already under ECHL contracts, the Aces move Lambert (8g-6a in 28 regular season games) and Robinson (40g-31a over two seasons) to the Chiefs. Both players contributed a goal and two assists in Alaska's 2008 Kelly Cup playoff run, which included a first-round sweep of defending ECHL champ Idaho.

Alaska will "Paint the Rink Pink" October 8 and 9 in a pair of pre-season games scheduled for 7:15 p.m. against South Carolina at Sullivan Arena. Both games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. A portion of the proceeds will benefit American Cancer Society in Alaska and Breast Cancer Focus, Inc. The Aces open the regular season at home against the Las Vegas Wranglers October 17 and 18, with both games starting at 7:15 p.m.
