Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are set to visit the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2ndBrigade Combat Team at Fort Drum on Tuesday, August 14. The 4-31 Infantry Polar Bears will show Chiefs players and coaches what it takes to be a soldier and how the Army works as a team. This is the second year in a row in which Syracuse is making the 75-plus-mile trip toward Watertown.

As part of the trip to Fort Drum, the Chiefs will have the opportunity to try on the full, heavy equipment troops wear in combat. Likewise, the ballplayers will see several weapons, such as a .50-cal machine gun and an MK-19 automatic grenade launcher.

Other activities planned for the Chiefs while at the military base include having lunch with soldiers at the Riva Ridge Café and presenting soldiers with signed jerseys, baseballs, and pictures.

"Honoring our nation's military is a high-priority for our organization," Chiefs general manager John Simone said. "So for our players and coaches to get to visit with soldiers at Fort Drum, and grow a greater appreciation for what they go through to defend us, is a partnership we're very proud to have."

Earlier this season on May 12, Syracuse hosted Armed Forces Day at Alliance Bank Stadium. That afternoon the Chiefs wore special red, white, and blue uniforms, and welcomed soldiers from Fort Drum for a special pregame tribute.

Following Tuesday's trip to Fort Drum, the Chiefs will return to Alliance Bank Stadium for a 7:00 game against the Toledo Mud Hens.
