
Chiefs Sweep Quad Cities, Push Win Streak to Eight Games

Peoria, IL - Trent Baker shut down Quad Cities for the second time this week as the Chiefs defeated the River Bandits 7-3 Sunday at Dozer Park. The win extends Peoria's winning streak to eight games while also securing its second sweep of the year.
Baker threw five scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the season and second in the series. The right-hander has dominated Quad Cities in 2023, tossing 18 scoreless innings against the River Bandits this season.
The Chiefs opened the scoring in the third inning against River Bandits hurler Frank Mozzicato. R.J. Yeager hit a two-run home run to put Peoria up 2-0.
Peoria added three more runs in the fourth inning. Jeremy Rivas led off with a single. After moving to second on a groundout, Tyler Reichenborn singled him home to make it 3-0. Carlos Linarez followed with an RBI single of his own to make it 4-0. Later in the inning, Peoria loaded the bases for Osvaldo Tovalin, who drew a walk to make it 5-0.
Yeager and Reichenborn combined for four of Peoria's seven hits. Linarez reached three times and his RBI was his first at High-A.
Mozzicato took the loss in 3 1/3 innings of work, allowing five runs on six hits, walking four and fanning two.
Quad Cities climbed back into the game in the seventh against Chiefs reliever Edwin Nunez. With two outs, Nunez walked Kale Emshoff. After Emshoff moved to second on a wild pitch, Shervyen Newton reached on a Rivas error which got the River Bandits on the board. After a Jack Alexander double, Javier Vaz singled in both runners to make it a 5-3 game.
Vaz went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
The Chiefs got two of the runs back in their half of the seventh. Four walks and two wild pitches from reliever Marlin Willis produced the runs to push Peoria ahead 7-3.
Peoria drew 11 walks, the most this season.
The Chiefs are now 54-48 and 21-15 in the second half. The River Bandits dropped to 44-58 and 12-24 in the latter half. Peoria has now won nine in a row against Quad Cities and lead the season series 10-1.
Peoria hits the road for two weeks starting on Tuesday as they open a six-game series against the Beloit Sky Carp at 6:35 p.m.
