'Caps, Captains Canceled

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Sunday's scheduled game between the West Michigan Whitecaps and Lake County Captains at LMCU Ballpark has been canceled.

Due to steady rain showers throughout Sunday morning, the decision was made to cancel the contest. Because the Whitecaps sit just one game out of first place in the Midwest League East division, the possibility remains that, due to playoff implications, these two teams could meet for a makeup game at the end of the regular season. West Michigan and Lake County are not scheduled to meet again in 2023, making Sunday's contest a tentative cancellation.

Detroit Tigers top-30 prospect and Whitecaps starter Dylan Smith - assigned to West Michigan on August 4th - was scheduled to make a minor league rehab appearance when the game was ultimately canceled. The Whitecaps end their two weeks in West Michigan with a season-best homestand record of 8-3 and give the 'Caps a five-game series sweep -- its first since the season-opening three-game sweep over Fort Wayne in April to begin the year. Tickets to Sunday's game can be exchanged for any future game, based on availability.
