The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, dropped a 1-0 nail-biter on Saturday night to the Buffalo Bisons. Lucas Duda's sixth-inning RBI double drove in the game's lone run, as Syracuse lost despite collecting 10 hits. The Chiefs stranded 12 runners in the loss.

Syracuse (54-60) rallied early and often against right-hander Chris Schwinden. The Chiefs put two runners on base in the first inning before Mark Teahen flied out to deep left-center field on a ball seemingly knocked down by the wind. Syracuse also put two runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings, but a Brett Carroll groundout ended the fourth, and a Corey Brown strikeout concluded the fifth.

The Chiefs then had their greatest opportunity in the sixth inning. Carlos Rivero and Teahen singled to start the inning, and after a Zach Walters strikeout, Carroll's single loaded the bases. But Schwinden struck out catcher Jeff Howell before getting his counterpart, Tanner Roark, on a groundout.

Roark then allowed the game's lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Buffalo (56-58) started the frame strong on a leadoff double by Fred Lewis, and two batters later, Duda delivered. The first baseman drilled a ball down the right-field line for a two-base hit into the corner, scoring Lewis for the game's first run.

The Chiefs had more opportunities in the late innings against reliever Robert Carson, but Syracuse couldn't convert them. After singles from Jim Negrych and Brown with one out in the seventh inning, Rivero bounced into a double play.

In the eighth, Walters reached on an error with one out and Carroll walked. But Howell grounded out to first base before pinch-hitter Jarrett Hoffpauir lined out to shortstop, ending the inning.

The Chiefs would then go down in order in the ninth against closer Fernando Cabrera.

Despite the loss, Roark was brilliant yet again. The right-hander tossed his third straight seven-inning, one-run start, striking out four while allowing just six hits and one walk.

Syracuse and Buffalo will finish out their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05. Chiefs left-hander Zach Duke is set to duel against Bisons left-hander Zack Wheeler.
