Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Rochester, NY - The Indianapolis have enjoyed much success over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees this season. However, the Yankees got the best of Indians on Saturday night with a 9-8 walk-off victory in the 10th inning at Frontier Field. Chris Dickerson proved to be the difference with a walk off sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Indianapolis jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second inning on a Yamaico Navarro double to the left-centerfield gap, bringing home Jeff Clement. The Indians added two more runs in the top half of the third on a two-RBI single off of Clement's bat. Chase d'Arnaud and Jose Tabata came around to score on the Clement doube and Indianapolis held a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre offense awoke in the home half of the fourth knotting the score at 3-3. Brandon Laird drew a bases loaded walk to bring home the Corban Joseph for the Yankees first run and Eduardo Nunez then took home on a wild pitch out of the hand of Indianapolis starter Justin Wilson. The third and final run of the inning came when Ronnier Mustelier scored from third on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Francisco Cervelli.

The Indians took the lead right back in the top half of the fifth. Matt Hague grounded out to Nunez allowing d'Arnaud to score easily from third and give Indianapolis the 4-3 lead. In the top of the sixth, Anderson Hernandez hit a rocket towards first and Kosuke Fukudome made a terrific play at first to get Hernandez at first. However, Christian Marrero scored from third on the Hernandez ground out and gave the Indians the 5-3 advantage heading into the home half of the sixth. The Indians added two runs in the top of the eighth on a Tabata two-RBI single making it a 7-4 ball game.

However, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre came all the way back in the bottom of the eighth. Brandon Laird started the three run rally with an RBI double to centerfield. Mesa followed suit with an RBI single and Laird scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Fukudome. Later in the inning with runners on the corner Darnell McDonald grounded into a double play to end the bottom of the eighth with the score tied at 7-7.

D'Arnaud broke the 7-7 tie with an RBI single to centerfield allowing Eric Fryer to score from second making it an 8-7 ball game. Fryer entered the game as a pinch runner for Tony Sanchez who drew a leadoff walk to start the tenth. In the bottom half, Darnell McDonald hit a grounder to third with the bases loaded allowing Cervelli to score from third on a throwing error. Mesa then scored on a sacrifice fly for the walk off 9-8 win.

Ryota Igarashi got the win for the Yankees, while Tim Wood suffered the loss for the Indians. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Indianapolis conclude their four game series tomorrow evening at 6:05.
