Chiefs Sign Second-Round Pick Owen Martin and Third-Round Pick Hayden Paupanekis

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs are proud to announce that prospects Owen Martin and Hayden Paupanekis have both signed WHL Standard Player Agreements this week. The forwards were selected in the second (27th overall) and third (49th overall) rounds of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, respectively.

From Oakbank, Manitoba, Martin spent the 2021-22 season with Eastman Selects U15 AAA, where he piled up 88 points on 61 goals and 27 assists in just 32 games. He added 21 more points (10G-11A) in 10 playoff games. The 15-year-old also played two games up with the Eastman Selects U17 squad, where he tacked on another three points on two goals and an assist.

"We are excited that Owen and his family have committed to the Spokane Chiefs organization," said Chiefs General Manager Matt Bardsley. "He is a highly intelligent and creative player, who also has an excellent release on his shot. His overall game will be a great addition to our team and how we want to play."

From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Paupanekis spent the 2021-22 season with the Winnipeg Wild Red U15 AAA, where he tallied 76 points (45G-31A) in just 29 games and added nine more in four playoff games (5G-4A). Paupanekis also played seven playoff games up with the Winnipeg Wild U17 club, tacking on five more points on two goals and three assists.

"We are excited that Hayden and his family have committed to the Spokane Chiefs organization," Chiefs General Manager Matt Bardsley said. "Hayden is a player who has an excellent combination of skating, skill, sense and compete. He can play and contribute in multiple situations and we look forward to watching him develop with our organization."

Both 15-year-olds will be eligible to join the Chiefs as full-time players for the 2023-24 season.
