Chiefs Sign D Hedberg, Tallari Called Up

Johnstown, PA (March 2, 2006) - Johnstown Chiefs general manager Toby O'Brien today announced that the Johnstown Chiefs have signed defenseman Jon Hedberg to a contract.

Hedberg, 23, from Duluth, Minnesota, just completed his senior season at York University, in Toronto, Canada. The 6-foot, 200 pound defenseman, led the York Lions in scoring this season with 22 points, including six goals, in 24 games. In four years at York, Hedberg registered 78 points, including 23 goals and 106 PIM's in 104 games.

Hedberg originally played junior hockey, starting with the Guelph Storm (OHL), in 1999. His junior career continued through Oshawa (OHL), concluding in Sault Ste. Marie (OHL) in 2002. Hedberg registered 60 points in the OHL, including 14 goals, and 168 PIM's.

"He is an all-round defenseman. He'll be able to contribute in several areas," said Chiefs GM Toby O'Brien.

In unrelated Chiefs news, Chiefs forward Joe Tallari, 25, has been recalled to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, of the American Hockey League. In 55 games this season, Tallari netted 18 goals and 19 assists, making him the Chiefs third leading scorer. He leads the Chiefs with 12 power play goals and 21 power play points. Tallari, a Bridgeport Sound contract player, played 11 games last season for Bridgeport Sound, registering seven points, including four goals. The 6'0, 195 pound forward, was a 2003 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, and is in his 2nd year with the Johnstown Chiefs.
