Alaska Aces News Release
The Alaska Aces netted four power play goals and cruised to a 8-1 victory over the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
Alaska's Alex Leavitt got things going with just over five minutes remaining in the opening period when he picked up a power play goal, assisted by Ryan Gaucher and Joe Talbot. The Aces outshot the Grizzlies 12-8 in the first period but the score was only 1-0 going into the first intermission.
The Grizzlies evened the score at the 2:12 mark when Louis Dumont found Scott Basiuk for his third goal of the season. Then the Aces' power play went back to work. This time it was Talbot with the goal, at 13:35, with Leavitt and Gaucher picking up helpers on the 5-on-3 advantage. Just over a minute later, Mike Scott scored his 27th of the season, also on the power play, and Gaucher and Leavitt increased their point totals to three each on the night. The Aces weren't finshed just yet, Talbot found the net for the second time of the game at the 16:51 mark of the second period to make it 4-1 Alaska at the end of two periods. In the third period, the Aces continued the barrage. Corbin Schmidt scored at 3:01 to increase the lead to 5-1. Chris Heisten picked up his first goal of the season, on the power play. Mike Lee and Olivier Filion also scored for Alaska to make the final score 8-1. Prior to the game tonight, Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced that forward Matt Craig was loaned to the AHL's Manitoba Moose. The Grizzlies (32-21-5) and the Aces (43-8-4) will meet again on Friday, March 3 in Alaska. Game time is 9:15 p.m.
