Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs are proud to announce that defenseman prospect Rhett Sather has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. Sather was selected in the fourth round (68th overall) of last year's WHL Prospects Draft.
"We are excited that Rhett has made the decision to continue his development with the Spokane Chiefs organization," Chiefs General Manager Matt Bardsley said. "His edgework and overall skating ability, puck skills and sense for the game will enable him to be an excellent defenseman offensively and defensively and will add to the strong group of 2008-born players who have committed to the Chiefs."
Sather, a 5-foot-9 blueliner from Cochrane, Alberta, spent the 2023-24 season with Calgary IHA U17 Prep where he piled up 30 points on 10 goals and 20 assists in 29 games, adding on another two assists in the playoffs.
In October, he was named MVP of the Bauer U17 Invite after Calgary Hockey Academy won the tournament and was also named to the PCHA U17 Winter Classic's All Tournament Team in February.
Prior to being drafted by the Chiefs, Sather posted 29 points (6G-23A) over 32 games with the Airdrie Xtreme U15 AAA squad in 2022-23.
"I am extremely excited to be part of the Chiefs organization," Sather said. "It's a great team, great city, and great things are coming."
Sather joins fellow 2008-born signed prospects F Brody Gillespie (1st-overall, U.S. Priority Draft), F Mathis Preston (3rd-overall, WHL Prospects Draft), G Carter Esler (22nd-overall, WHL Prospects Draft), D Kaden Allan (24th-overall, WHL Prospects Draft), and F Cohen Harris (47th-overall, WHL Prospects Draft).
He is first eligible to join the Chiefs as a full-time player during the 2024-25 season.
