
Chiefs shut out T-Birds

Spokane, WA - The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0 Saturday night in front of 5,750 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
The T-Birds are now 6-2-2-1 in the US Division and face the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday night at KeyArena at 5:05 p.m.
Chris Langkow scored five minutes into the first period to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Curtis Kelner and Ryan Letts had the assists. Seattle outshot Spokane 8-3 in the first period.
Jared Cowan scored at 11:35 of the second period to give Spokane (10-2-1-1) a 2-0 lead. Kelner had the only assist on the goal.
The Chiefs had 16 shots in the second period to six for the T-Birds. Spokane led 19-14 in shots after two periods.
Seattle pulled goalie Jacob DeSerres with 2:08 left in the third period for an extra attacker. They got several shots on goal but were not able to get the puck past Spokane goalie Dustin Tokarski.
Spokane outshot Seattle 9-8 in the third period.
DeSerres finished with 26 saves on 28 shots and his record is now 1-1-0-1.
Tokarski made 22 saves to get the shutout and his record is now 4-1-1-0.
The T-Birds finish out the weekend Sunday night when they play the Brandon Wheat Kings at 5:05 p.m. at KeyArena.
