Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have received right wing Dan Gendur on reassignment from the Vancouver Canucks.

"The Chiefs are pleased to add a highly skilled player like Dan to our line-up. He is a player that can play in all situations and make an immediate impact. I think his addition will really compliment the Chiefs as we get back to having our lineup at full strength. Most importantly, Dan is excited about the opportunity at hand and about finally arriving in Johnstown," said Chiefs vice president and general manager Bill Bredin.

The 5-11, 190 pound right wing was drafted in the seventh round (#206 overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2007 NHL Draft. The 22 year old represented the Victoria Salmon Kings at the ECHL All-Star Game in Reading in January 2009 and won the fastest skater competition with a time of 13.816. His time turned out to be faster than any time in the NHL or AHL skills competitions. As a rookie last season Gendur posted 38 points and led Salmon King rookies (fifth on team) with 29 assists. Through eight games this season he had four assists with Victoria.

In each of the last two seasons Gendur has attended prospects camp and training camp with the Canucks and the Manitoba Moose, respectively. With Manitoba last season Gendur notched one goal in ten American Hockey League games.

The Vancouver, British Columbia native was named Most Valuable Player for the Everett Silvertips for the 2007-08 season while leading the team with 84 points (29G, 55A). Along with being named MVP of the Silvertips, Gendur was also named to the Western Hockey League West Second All-Star Team. Before the Silvertips, he began his WHL career with the Prince George Cougars where he posted 28 points (6G, 12A) over 92 games. After 13 games with Prince George in 2006-07 he was traded to Everett where broke out with 42 points (20G, 22A) in 48 contests.

Gendur is expected to be in uniform, wearing number 12, when the Chiefs host Elmira this Friday, and Gwinnet this Saturday at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial.
