Moosic, PA - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees by a score of 3-1 on Sunday night in front of a crowd of 6,167 and PNC Field. Shairon Martis pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits to earn his first win since July 8th.

Syracuse (56-53) got on the board first with a solo home run off the bat of newly acquired Wilson Ramos. The former Rochester Red Wing knocked a shot off the scoreboard in left-center field for his first as Chief and his sixth of the season. It was the ninth straight start in which Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Zach McAllister surrendered a home run.

Syracuse scored again in the sixth inning on back to back RBI singles from Ramos and Kevin Mench. The Chiefs led 3-1 after six.

In the seventh the Yankees (63-46) got their only run of the night. Jason Bergmann was on in relief of Martis and hit the leadoff man Colin Curtis. The Yankees right fielder stole second base and came around to score on an RBI double to right by Chad Huffman. That made it 3-1. Bermann worked out of the inning and gave way to Josh Wilkie and Adam Carr.

The eighth and ninth inning duo combined to strike out two batters and hold the Yankees scoreless over the last two innings.

Syracuse and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will return to Alliance Bank Stadium for two more games staring on Monday night. RHP Jason Marquis (0-0, 7.20) is scheduled to start for the Chiefs against RHP David Phelps (1-2, 3.86) for the Yankees. First pitch is set for 7:00.
