Chiefs Lose Stoesz in Expansion Draft

Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Chilliwack Bruins have selected 19-year-old forward Myles Stoesz off the Chiefs roster in today's expansion draft. Stoesz recently completed his third season in a Spokane uniform and was honored at the end of the season as the Spokane Chiefs Humanitarian of the Year.

"The expansion draft is never a positive experience for the existing league partners as you can only protect a limited number of players," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said. "With the retuning group we have, we thought we would lose a profile player. We wish Myles all the best with his new team."

The Steinbach, Manitoba native was originally a third round selection of the Chiefs in the 2002 WHL Bantam Draft. In three seasons, Stoesz played 166 games, scored two goals, 13 points and posted 631 penalty minutes, seventh in franchise history. The Atlanta Thrashers made the winger their seventh round selection in last summer's NHL Entry Draft.

"Its unfortunate we lost Myles in expansion but we knew we would lose an established, veteran player," Chiefs Head Coach Bill Peters said. "Myles will bring character to the Chilliwack Bruins and I wish him the best in his career."

The Bruins will be the newest and 21st franchise in the WHL and will begin play in 2006-07. Chilliwack was allowed to select at least one player off each team's roster after a protected list of 15 players was supplied to the expansion team earlier this morning.
