Chiefs Host Rockets Friday Night to Kick off December

December 2, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs host the Kelowna Rockets Friday night to kick off their December slate.

The Chiefs look to snap a five-game skid this weekend as they come off a 8-3 loss to the Everett Silvertips on Sunday. Despite their struggles, a few Chiefs are finding their stride, including rookie Berkly Catton who has points in every game since his return from the World U-17 Hockey Challenge earlier this month (2G-4A in 5 games). With 5 goals and 11 assists so far this season, the 16-year-old is averaging a point a game and is ranked fifth in scoring among the WHL's rookies.

2003-born winger Ty Cheveldayoff also rekindled his play on Sunday night against the Silvertips, as he scored both his 10th and 11th goals of the season in the third period to get Spokane on the board. His 11th goal marked a new career-high for Cheveldayoff, while he is just one point away from his 2021-22 season total (10G-9A) and is averaging 0.86 points per game. The Alberta native currently leads the team in goals.

Italian-born rookie Tommaso De Luca (+7) has been a consistent presence on the ice for the Chiefs, with 11 points in the last 10 games, 8 of which have been assists. He is in the top 10 across all scoring categories among the league's rookies, including top 5 for assists (12).
