Dairy Producer Sid Wavrin Drops the Puck at Spokane Chiefs vs. Everett Silvertips Game
(Spokane Chiefs)
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs are proud to announce that with the help of fans at two Dairy For Life Night promotions this season on October 23 and February 14, Dairy For Life and Second Harvest raised $2,206 to help families around Spokane gain access to dairy products.
Dairy For Life is a charitable fund originally created by regional dairy producers in 2013 to help local food banks, spearheaded by Second Harvest, distribute milk for hungry families and seniors. After a seed donation in the tens of thousands - all donated directly by five founding producers - the program has continued to grow with the help of additional producers and local communities.
"Through the generosity of dairy farmers and consumer donations, Second Harvest has been able to distribute over 1,600 gallons of milk each month to hungry people," said Rod Wieber, Chief Resource Officer at Second Harvest. "We very much appreciate the support of our local dairy farmers to address a real need for milk assistance in our communities."
With the combination of $4 from every ticket sold through a special online offer to each of the two Dairy For Life games, as well as unique Chiefs' memorabilia prize raffles, Spokane Chiefs fans chipped in enough to purchase over 900 gallons of milk for those in need.
For more information on how to donate to Dairy For Life, contact Second Harvest at 509-252-6259. More information about how the Dairy For Life program works is available at http://www.2-harvest.org/dairy-for-life/.
