Davenport, IA - The Peoria Chiefs lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits 8-4 Saturday night. The Chiefs are now 37-30 in the second half and 76-61 overall with two games left in the regular season.
Down 3-0 the Chiefs got on the board in the fifth against reliever Carlos Hiraldo. Brandon Benson drew a leadoff walk and Andres Luna followed with a free pass. With one down Nolan Gorman drew a walk to load the bases. Luken Baker brought in a run with a fielders' choice to first base and Zach Kirtley got the Chiefs to within one run with a fielders' choice of his own. Hiraldo bounced back to get Dennis Ortega on a flyout to right as the Chiefs stranded two, down 3-2.
The Chiefs got on the board again in the seventh inning against Humberto Castellanos after the Bandits scored four. Justin Toerner drew a leadoff walk and Nolan Gorman singled to left to put two on base. Luken Baker singled to left and Toerner scored on a throwing error to cut the Quad Cities lead to 7-3. Kirtley's second RBI of the night came on a groundout to make it 7-4 River Bandits.
