Spokane Chiefs News Release

Kamloops, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs failed to generate any offense in game one of the first round of the Western Hockey League Playoffs. They were shut out by the Kamloops Blazers 9-0 on the road Friday night.

The Blazers set the tone early, as Logan Stankoven scored his first goal of the night just 44 seconds into the first period. They kept the foot on the gas, scoring back-to-back goals at 7:29 and 7:51 (Drew Englot and Matthew Seminoff).

Stankoven stayed hot in the second, again finding the net less than a minute into the frame on a power play. Quinn Schmiemann and former Spokane Chief Luke Toporowski earned assists on the play. It was Toporowski's first game back since being injured in early March.

Fraser Minten tacked on another goal for Kamloops at 3:52 to put the Blazers up 4-0 in the second. The Chiefs managed to keep them at bay for the rest of the period, but could find the net themselves.

The Blazers were relentless in the third period, scoring five more unanswered goals - two from Toporowski at 1:15 and 5:13. Stankoven completed his hat trick at 12:17.

Caedan Bankier put the nail in the coffin at 13:05 with Kamloops' ninth goal of the game.

Blazer goaltender Dylan Garand completed the shutout with 25 saves, while Mason Beaupit started in net for the Chiefs and turned away 12-of-17 shots faced. Cooper Michaluk came in after the fifth goal and stopped 23-of-27 shots.

Spokane was outshot 44-25 and went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Game two will take place Saturday night in Kamloops.
