The Winnipeg ICE used home ice to their advantage opening the WHL playoffs completing a weekend sweep of the Prince Albert Raiders with a 5-2 victory Saturday night at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.
Nolan Orzeck, Jakin Smallwood and Owen Pederson gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead after the opening period as the ICE now lead the best of seven series 2-0.
Zach Benson and Conor Geekie scored 70 seconds apart in the second period to secure the win.
Landon Kosior and Reece Vitelli replied for the Raiders.
The ICE went 2/3 on the power play while Prince Albert was 0/3.
Winnipeg outshot the visitors 29-20. Daniel Hauser earned the victory in net while Tikhon Chaika was pulled 2:10 into the second period after allowing four goals in 15 shots. Max Hildebrand stopped 13/14 over the final 37:50.
The series shifts to Prince Albert for Game 3 Tuesday night and Game 4 Wednesday. Both face off at 8:00 Central time (7:30 pregame show on CFRW 1290).
