After a 53 win regular season, the Winnipeg ICE opened the Western Hockey League post season with 3-1 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders Friday night at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.
Jakin Smallwood, Owen Pederson and Connor McClennon scored for the ICE who led 1-0 lead after the 1st period and 2-0 through 40 minutes.
Reece Vitelli scored the lone goal for Prince Albert.
Winnipeg outshot the Raiders 30-20. Daniel Hauser earned the win in goal while Tikhon Chaika suffered the loss.
The ICE went 2/4 on the power play while the visitors were 0/5.
Game 2 is tomorrow (Saturday) night, 7:00 at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming.
