Chiefs Back to .500 With Sixth Straight Road Win

Clinton, IA– Ryan Harvey homered twice and the Peoria Chiefs pounded out 16 hits in a 13-3 victory over the Clinton LumberKings Sunday afternoon at Alliant Energy Field. With the win the Chiefs have their first six game road win streak in seven years and move to 25-25 on the season, 17-10 on the road.

Clinton grabbed an early lead against Chiefs starter Chris Shaver in the 1st inning. Brandon Cashman led off with a grounder to short and reached on an error. Tug Hulett tripled past a diving Bo Flowers in leftfield to score Cashman for a 1-0 lead. Jim Fasano followed with a RBI single to right for a 2-0 LumberKings lead.

The lead didn't last long though as the Chiefs bats came alive in the 2nd inning against Clinton starter Kyle Rogers. Luis Montanez led off with a double and scored on a pair of wild pitches. Drew Larsen who had walked advanced on the second wild pitch and scored on a single by Alberto Garcia to tie the game. Oscar Bernard's single gave the Chiefs a 3-2 lead as Bernard scored and Eric Patterson singled home Bernard.

The Chiefs added to their lead in the 3rd inning when Montanez led off with a single and stole a pair of bases. Drew Larsen's first home of the season, a long blast to left, scored Montanez and gave the Chiefs a 6-2 lead. Flowers singled home Ryan Harvey in the 4th inning as the Chiefs built a 7-2 lead.

Peoria blew the game open off reliever Chris Jaile in the 5th inning. Garcia led off with a single and went to second on a wild pitch before Bernard was hit by a pitch. After a pair of outs, Aaron Sisk doubled down the left field line scoring a pair for a 9-2 Peoria lead. Harvey then clubbed his first homer in May, his 6th of the season to extend the lead to 11-2.

Harvey added his second homer of the game and his 7th of the season in the 7th inning when he crushed a 2-0 offering from Roberto Perez past the scoreboard in left-center. The homer gave Harvey two multi-homer games this season and tied him with Montanez for the team lead in RBI.

Shaver (2-4) picked up the win with six innings of work in which he allowed one earned run on two hits and five walks while striking out three. Shaver didn't allow a hit after the first inning and at one point retired 10 in a row.

Pepsi Player of the Game

Ryan Harvey (RF) – Harvey homered in the 5th and 7th innings for his second multi-HR game of the season. He drove in four runs for the third time this season and is now among the league leaders with seven HR. He also walked and scored to finish the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI.

Notes...The Chiefs haven't been .500 since April 8th when the Chiefs were 1-1...Patterson singled in the 2nd inning to extend his hit streak to 13 games... Sisk has hit safely in all 10 games he has played since joining the Chiefs...Harvey's other multi-homer game was April 18 when he hit three against Wisconsin...Montanez has 20 multi-hit games this season and seven 3-hit games...The last time the Chiefs won six straight road games was in 1998...The two teams will play the finale of the four game series Monday at 2:00 PM...The Chiefs will have RH Lee Gwaltney on the hill against RH John Bannister for Clinton...The game can be heard on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
