Chiefs Announce Training Camp Schedule And Preseason Games

Johnstown, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today the schedule for their 2008-09 training camp.

Camp will unofficially get under way on Friday, October 3 when Chiefs players and coach Ian Herbers will be at the UPMC offices on Scalp Avenue in Richland to meet and greet Chiefs season ticket holders at the annual ticket pick-up party.

The players will take to the ice for the first time the next day, October 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The practice, as are all practices during training camp, is free and open to the general public. Camp rosters will be available to fans in attendance on October 4; however War Memorial concession stands will not be open during that time.

The Chiefs will also play two preseason games against the rival Wheeling Nailers. The teams will play the first of back-to-back games at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling on Friday, October 10 at 7:35 PM. Then everyone will get on their busses and come to the War Memorial for the final preseason game on Saturday, October 11 at 7:05 PM. Tickets for that game will be $8.00 for everyone in attendance, but season ticket holders get into the event free with their season ticket holder ID card. Also, for any season ticket holder who is unable to pick up their tickets at the UPMC event, the tickets will be available for pick up at the merchandise stand during the preseason game.

Tuesday, October 7: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon & 7:30 - 9:30 PM

Wednesday, October 8: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon & 3:00 - 5:00 PM

Thursday, October 9: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon & 8:45 - 10:45 PM

Friday, October 10: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon & Preseason game @ Wheeling - 7:35 PM

Saturday, October 11: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon & Preseason game vs. Wheeling - 7:05 PM

Sunday, October 12: 11:00 - 1:00 PM

Monday, October 13: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon

Tuesday, October 14: TBD

Wednesday, October 15: TBD

Thursday, October 16: 10:00 - 12:00 Noon

The Chiefs open their 2008-09 season at the Sovereign Bank Arena against the Trenton Devils on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 PM, and then return to the War Memorial for the home opener against Wheeling on October 18 at 7:05 PM!
