Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers announced today the signing of defenseman Dominic D'Amour, Head Coach Bill McDonald said. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
D'Amour, a third round (#88 overall) draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, joins the Bombers with 98 games of American Hockey League experience under his belt. The Quebec native skated for the Toronto Marlies during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, as well as with the St. John's Maple Leafs in 2004-05, picking up a combined 17 points (4g,13a).
"My American League experience will definitely be an advantage and help me be a better player," D'Amour said. "This is a great opportunity to help the Bombers get to the playoffs and win a championship."
The 24-year-old defenseman spent time in the Central Hockey League last season with the Wichita Thunder, recording 5 goals, a career-high 10 assists and 65 PIM in 26 games.
"He is a big, strong player," McDonald said of the 6-foot-3-inch, 221-pound D'Amour. "Dominic's got the size and shot of an American League player and will be an asset to the team."
D'Amour saw action in the ECHL in his first professional season in 2004-05 with Pensacola, playing in 22 regular season games and 4 post-season contests.
Prior to turning pro, D'Amour played four seasons in the QMJHL for a combined 212 games. He earned 25 goals, 68 assists and 657 PIM, averaging more than 3 minutes in the box per game. His career high came in 2001-02 with the Hull Olympiques, when he totaled 225 PIM in 68 games.
