RoadRunners Add Andricopoulos, Thurston

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that defensemen Andrew Andricopoulos and Brett Thurston have each agreed to terms on a contract for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

Andricopoulos, 21, collected two goals and six points in 49 games last season with the South Carolina Stingrays. The Beverly, Mass. native and second-year professional totaled 26 goals, 92 assists, and 118 points in 259 games during a four-year junior career with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and under the leadership of head coach and NHL hall-of-fame goaltender Patrick Roy, led the Remparts to the 2006 Memorial Cup Championship.

Thurston, 26, posted one goal, 11 assists, and 12 points in 63 games in 2007-08 with the Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League. The Strathmore, Alberta native and second-year professional joined the Eagles following a four-year collegiate career at the University of Alberta for their run to the 2007 President's Cup Championship and notched four assists and 26 penalty minutes in 25 post-season games. Prior to his tenure at the University of Alberta, Thurston skated five seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League.

Andricopoulos and Thurston join a RoadRunners' roster that already includes forwards Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Kimbi Daniels, Dan DaSilva, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Daniel Sisca, Peder Skinner and Chris Stevens; defenseman Matt Burke, T.J. Campbell, Rob Dmytruk, Bryan Nathe, and Tom Sawatske; and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo.

Phoenix will play a two-game pre-season series against the Florida Everblades Oct. 10-11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

The RoadRunners open their fourth ECHL season Oct. 17 when they welcome the Victoria Salmon Kings to US Airways Center for a three-game Opening Weekend series.
