September 25, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers announced today the signing of defenseman Nathan Schwartzbauer, Head Coach Bill McDonald said. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Schwartzbauer joins the Bombers after completing his first professional season with the CHL's Youngstown Steelhounds. The Wasilla, Alaska native had 11 points (3g,8a) and 62 PIM in 64 games with the Steelhounds. He also appeared in five post-season contests. Schwartzbauer finished the season with a +11 ranking and was named "Most Improved Player."

"It's a great feeling to get on the ice and shut down the opponents' top scoring line," Schwartzbauer said. "I'm looking forward to transitioning to the more 'run-and-gun' style of play in the ECHL and to helping the team get some wins."

The 6-foot-4-inch defenseman played four years at Bemidji State University, tallying 17 assists and 102 PIM in 126 career games. While at BSU, Schwartzbauer won a pair of CHA Championships in 2005 and 2006 and was also a three-time CHA Academic All-Star.

"Nathan's a great addition to the team," McDonald said. "He's going to add size and toughness to our defense."

Schwartzbauer's hometown has also been on the radar recently, as former Wasilla mayor Sarah Palin was named the Republican vice presidential nominee.

"I grew up kind of knowing her," he said. "My dad was on the same PTA board as her and I played hockey against her son Track. Now media is roaming around everywhere, Larry King is calling one of my dad's buddy's and you've got Jay Leno talking about your little town."

The Bombers will open their 2008-09 campaign at the Nutter Center on Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. against the rival Cincinnati Cyclones! Discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more are available by calling 775-4747.
